Write a Prompt, Pick a Model, Generate
With no picture to start from, the words do all the work. Every detail the model shows you, from the main character to the color of the sky, comes from what you type.
Write the scene
Start with who or what is on screen and what it does. Add where it happens, how the camera moves and the look you want. Two to four sentences are usually enough; a long list of adjectives tends to blur the main idea.
Choose a model and settings
Pick a model, a duration, a resolution and an aspect ratio. Short drafts on cheaper models let you check whether the idea works before you spend more credits on a longer or sharper version. The price for the exact settings appears on the button.
Generate, review and rewrite
Watch the clip and compare it with your prompt. Keep the parts that worked and rewrite only the part that didn't, so you can tell which change made the difference. A failed generation hands its credits back automatically.
Prompt Formula: Subject + Action + Setting + Camera + Style
Prompt to video works best when each part of the scene has its own short phrase. Use this order as a checklist rather than a rigid template.
| Part | What to write | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Subject | Who or what the viewer should watch | An old fisherman in a yellow raincoat |
| Action | One clear movement or event | Pulls a net onto the deck |
| Setting | Place, time of day and weather | On a small boat at dawn, light rain |
| Camera | Shot size and movement | Medium shot, slow dolly to the left |
| Style | Look, lighting and color | Documentary realism, muted blue tones |
Put together, those five parts read like this:
An old fisherman in a yellow raincoat pulls a net onto the deck of a small boat at dawn, light rain falling. Medium shot, slow dolly to the left. Documentary realism, muted blue tones.
A few rules make the formula work better:
- Give the clip one main event. A 5-second video can't fit a plot with three twists.
- Name the camera move. Words like dolly, pan, orbit, crane up or handheld change the result more than extra adjectives.
- Describe light and color. Golden hour, overcast, neon or candlelight sets the mood fast.
- Say what the style is not. Add "photorealistic" or "2D anime" so the model doesn't have to guess.
Example Prompts by Use Case
Copy any of these, then swap the subject, place or style for your own.
Social media hook
Short, bold motion grabs attention in the first second.
A paper airplane bursts out of an open notebook and loops around the camera, bright desk lamp light, fast whip pan, playful and colorful.
Product ad
Clean backgrounds and slow camera moves keep the product in focus.
A glass perfume bottle stands on wet black stone, droplets slide down its side, camera circles slowly, dark studio with a single rim light, luxury commercial style.
Nature and travel B-roll
Wide shots with gentle movement cut easily into longer edits.
Aerial shot gliding over turquoise water and white cliffs at sunset, waves breaking softly, warm haze, smooth forward motion.
Explainer and classroom
Clear, simple visuals make an idea easy to follow.
A cutaway of a green leaf as sunlight enters and tiny particles flow through it, clean 3D illustration, slow zoom in, bright and friendly colors.
Fantasy and anime
Name the art style early so it shapes the whole shot.
A girl with a lantern walks through a forest of glowing mushrooms, fireflies rise around her, low angle tracking shot, 2D anime style, soft purple light.
Food
Steam, pours and slow motion make food look appetizing.
Thick hot chocolate pours into a white mug in slow motion, steam curls upward, close-up, cozy morning light on a wooden table.
Text to Video vs Image to Video: When to Use Which
Both start a new clip, but they differ in how much control you have over what appears on screen.
| Prompt only | Photo plus prompt | |
|---|---|---|
| Starting point | Words | Your picture and a description of the motion |
| Control over the look | The model decides faces, products and layout | The first frame matches your photo |
| Best for | Ideas, B-roll, concept shots, scenes you can't film | Real people, your own product, a specific place |
| Keeping a character the same across clips | Hard, since every run invents the subject again | Easier, since each run starts from the same picture |
Write a prompt when the idea matters more than the exact appearance. Use a photo when the subject has to look like a real person, product or place. That workflow lives on the image to video AI page, where you upload a picture and describe its motion. For a gentle living portrait, such as a blink or a smile, the animate photo AI page has tips for small movements.
Settings That Change the Result
The prompt shapes the content, and the settings shape the length, sharpness and cost of the clip.
- Length: Veo 3.1 makes 4, 6 or 8 seconds, Kling 3.0 makes 3 to 15, and Wan 3.0 and Seedance 2.5 can run as long as 30 seconds.
- Resolution: free accounts stop at 720p; paid plans open 1080p, 2K and 4K where a model offers them.
- Sound: Veo 3.1 and MiniMax H3 always generate audio, Kling 3.0 can add native audio as an option, Seedance 2.0 and 2.5 come with audio, and Wan 3.0 has audio switched on by default.
- Cost: the cheapest draft is Seedance 1.0 Pro Fast at 6 credits, while Veo 3.1 Quality at 1080p for 8 seconds costs 538.

Questions About Prompt-Only Video
What is the best text to video AI?
It depends on what you need from the clip, so test the same prompt on two models. Seedance 1.0 Pro Fast is the low-cost way to check an idea. Kling 3.0 suits multi-shot storytelling, the Quality and Fast tiers of Veo 3.1 reach 4K, and Wan 3.0 or Seedance 2.5 handle the longest shots, up to 30 seconds.
Is there an AI text to video generator free of charge?
Yes, with limits. A free account comes with 30 credits on sign-up, to use within 30 days, and 5 more every day, and it opens all models but Veo 3.1 Quality, at up to 720p. That covers a few cheap prompt drafts, not a 42-credit Kling 3.0 clip. The no-sign-up daily freebie needs a photo, so prompt-only clips start with that account. Free videos carry a watermark; a paid plan or credit pack removes it and opens up to 4K.
How long can a generated video be?
Up to 30 seconds, depending on the model. Wan 3.0 covers 2 to 30 seconds and Seedance 2.5 covers 4 to 30. Kling 3.0 and MiniMax H3 go up to 15 seconds, while Veo 3.1 stops at 8. Longer clips cost more credits, so draft at 5 seconds and extend once the prompt works.
Can the video include sound?
Yes, on models that generate audio. Veo 3.1 and MiniMax H3 add sound to every clip, Kling 3.0 offers native audio as an option, Seedance 2.0 and 2.5 include it, and Wan 3.0 has it on by default. Clips from Hailuo 2.3, Kling 2.5 Turbo or Seedance 1.0 Pro Fast are silent, so add music or a voiceover in an editor if you choose one of those.
What if the video doesn't match my prompt?
Rewrite one part at a time. Move the most important element to the start, give one main action instead of several, and name the camera move and style directly. If the generation itself fails, the credits go back to your balance automatically, so a technical error never costs you anything.
Can I use the videos commercially?
Yes, for clips generated on a paid plan or while you have a credit pack balance. The license is fixed when each video is made, so those clips stay cleared for commercial use after the plan ends or the pack runs out. Paid use also removes the watermark and keeps files for 180 days. Free videos are watermarked, not licensed for commercial use and kept for 7 days.
