From Wan 2.2 and 2.5 to 3.0: What Changed
Alibaba has released Wan in several generations, and they differ in a way that matters more than quality: who can run them. The early ones were published as open weights you can download. The later ones have no public weights. Only the newest generation is offered on ImageVideoAI.
| Generation | Public weights | Where it runs | Offered here |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2.1 and 2.2 | Yes, Apache 2.0 license | Your own GPU or third-party hosts | No |
| 2.5, 2.6 and 2.7 | No | Alibaba's own cloud | No |
| 3.0 | No | Alibaba Cloud API, and this site | Yes |
Wan 2.2 remains the most recent generation with downloadable weights, so it is the version to look at if you want to run Wan on your own machine. From 2.5 onward Alibaba kept the weights private. The jump to 3.0 is mostly about length: Alibaba lists 15 seconds as the maximum for 2.7 and 30 seconds for the new model, which entered public beta in August 2026 and became generally available on Alibaba's international channels on August 24, 2026.
What the Newest Wan Does Best
The strengths below come straight from the model's settings on this site:
- The widest length range here. Any duration from 2 to 30 seconds, so the same model covers a 2-second loop and a half-minute continuous take.
- Sound by default. Audio is switched on unless you turn it off, so ambient noise and effects arrive with the picture.
- First and last frame. Upload an opening image and a closing one, and the clip travels between them.
- Three resolutions. 480p for rough previews, 720p for everyday clips, 1080p for finished work.
If you need 4K, look at Kling or Veo instead; Wan stops at 1080p.
Running Wan Online vs Locally
Running Wan locally means downloading the open 2.2 weights, setting up a workflow on a machine with a capable graphics card, and keeping it updated. It costs nothing per render once the hardware is paid for, and you control every setting. The catch is that you get 2.2, not the current generation, because the newer weights were never released.
Using this site means no installation, no GPU and access to 3.0 itself. You pay a set number of credits for each clip, and the file is ready to download when it finishes. For anyone without a strong graphics card, or anyone who wants the 30-second model, online is the only practical route.
Wan Credits Per Clip
What a Wan render costs is set by two choices, resolution and duration, and you see the total before confirming. If a render fails, every credit it would have used goes back to your balance.
| Resolution | Length | Credits | Good for |
|---|---|---|---|
| 720p | 5 seconds | 59 | Social clips and drafts you might keep |
| 1080p | 5 seconds | 117 | Final delivery and larger screens |
Longer clips cost more, and the tool recalculates the number each time you pick a different length. Free accounts open with 30 credits that last 30 days and get another 5 daily that reset instead of adding up, capped at 720p and watermarked. A 5-second 720p Wan render costs 59, about twice the signup grant, so the clips in this table need paid credits. Paid plans add 1080p, remove the watermark and include commercial use, and the pricing page has the details.
Writing Prompts for Long Wan Takes
A 30-second take gives the model room to tell a small story, which also means more room for the prompt to drift. These habits keep a Wan video on track:
- Plan the beats by time. Split a long take into two or three parts, such as "in the first seconds", "midway" and "at the end".
- Describe the soundscape. Audio is on by default, so name what should be heard: rain on a tin roof, a tram bell, a crowd murmuring.
- Keep the camera simple on long clips. One slow move across 20 seconds reads better than five quick changes.
- Use 2-second clips for loops. A very short length with a small repeating motion, such as a candle flickering, makes a clean loop.
- Let the closing frame hold the ending. With first and last frame, describe the change between the two images rather than the images themselves.
Three prompts suited to Wan:
In the first seconds, the tram in the photo waits at the stop as rain begins. Midway, it pulls away and the camera follows it down the street. At the end, it turns a corner under glowing shop signs. Rain, a ringing bell, tyres on wet stone.
A candle flame on a dark table flickers and steadies, smoke curling up once, static close-up, quiet room tone. Two seconds, made to loop.
Opening frame: a sketch of a house in pencil on paper. Closing frame: the same house as a full-color painting. Color spreads from the door outward, brushstrokes appearing one by one, soft paper rustle.
Wan vs Seedance vs Veo
Two other families are natural comparisons: one also reaches 30 seconds, and one is built for short, high-resolution shots. All of them sit behind one uploader on our image to video AI homepage, so you can render the same picture on each.
| Wan | Seedance | Veo | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Duration | 2 to 30 s | 4 to 30 s (2.5) | 4, 6 or 8 s |
| Best resolution | 1080p | 4K (2.0) | 4K (Quality, Fast) |
| 720p entry price | 59 credits for 5 s | 14 credits for 5 s | 65 credits for 8 s |
ByteDance's model is the closest rival on length, since its 2.5 version also lasts up to half a minute, though only at 480p or 720p, with native audio and a cheap 1.0 Pro Fast version for drafts. Wan's advantage is 1080p on long takes. Our Seedance AI video generator walks through all five of its versions.
Google's model works the other way around: clips cap at 8 seconds, but Quality and Fast render in 4K, and both frames of a shot can be fixed. For a short product shot at maximum sharpness, open the Veo 3.1 AI video generator and compare its three tiers.
Wan FAQ
Can I use Wan 2.5 online here?
No. ImageVideoAI offers only Wan 3.0, a newer generation that runs to 30 seconds per clip. Alibaba hasn't published weights for 2.5 or 2.6, and this site doesn't run either of them. If you landed here looking for 2.5, the current model is the closest equivalent we can offer.
What is Wan 2.2 AI model, and how does it differ from 3.0?
Wan 2.2 is an earlier Alibaba video model released with open weights under the Apache 2.0 license, so people can download it and run it on their own GPU. Version 3.0 is newer, runs up to 30 seconds and generates sound by default, but its weights are not public. This site runs 3.0 only; 2.2 isn't available here.
Is Wan 3.0 open source?
No. As of October 2026, Alibaba has published open weights for the 2.1 and 2.2 generations, and none for 2.5 or later. Version 3.0 is available through Alibaba Cloud's API and through services built on it, such as this one. You can use it online here without any local setup.
How long can a Wan video be?
On this site, between 2 and 30 seconds, picked in whole seconds from a grid in the length menu; free accounts go up to 10 seconds. Longer and sharper clips use more credits, and the figure is displayed before anything is charged. A 5-second clip costs 59 credits at 720p or 117 at 1080p.
Is the Wan AI video generator free to use?
Not really. Free accounts may choose Wan at up to 720p with a watermark and get 30 credits on signup plus 5 each day, but a 5-second 720p clip costs 59 credits, so the free balance doesn't cover the standard render shown above. For watermark-free 1080p files, a paid plan or a one-off credit pack is the way to go.
